Working Together

  • I offer a free, no obligation consultation of up to an hour to discuss your requirements, learn what you already know, assess any existing materials, and agree our objectives.

  • After our initial consultation, I’ll confirm our discussion in writing along with a written quotation and a copy of my terms and conditions. Once you accept my quotation and pay your deposit, we can set a start date!

Once I’ve started work, I’ll keep you up to date with my progress. I will never go beyond our agreed hours or budget without your consent.

After the research is complete and on receipt of the final payment, I’ll send you a full written report of my findings, usually as a PDF. I take great pride in producing clear, readable and fully-evidenced research reports, tailored to your specific project.

  • My hourly rate is £30 plus expenses, with a minimum charge of two hours. Expenses are always agreed in advance and may include:

    • travel expenses (45p a mile or standard-class bus/train tickets)

    • practical costs (e.g. photocopying, archive licenses) charged at cost price

    • GRO certificates &c charged at cost price.

Depending on the complexity of your project, I will quote either a one-off project price or the estimated hours required. With longer or more complex projects, I normally recommend working in packages (e.g. 10 hours or 20 hours). This means you remain in control of costs and can review our progress at each stage. Unused hours can be refunded or rolled forward for further work.

At the end of each work package, I provide either a final or an interim report. If it is the latter, I will provide a revised estimate for your approval before undertaking further work.

Please note that the time allocated to each work package includes travel time (if relevant), analysis and writing up reports, as well as primary research.
